To know more about the last Savior in Islam

>In these series of articles we focus on verses that are intended to say something about Imam ‎‎Mahdi who is the Last Savior.

God in surah al-Toubah, verse 34 commands the Prophet to say to people, “Give good tidings of a painful chastisement to those who pile up gold and silver and do not spend them in Allahs way.”

Ma’aaz bin Kathir says that he heard from Imam Saadiq (the Shia sixth Imam) who have said,

“Our followers are at ease to spend of what they possess in good ways. But, when our Upriser arises, all of those who possess something precious should not spend it but to bring it to him to use it against his opponents and this is what God the Great states, ‘Give good tidings of a painful chastisement …’”

This verse with the mentioned narration contains some considerable points:

1- A part of the property should be spent for God: In Islam, it is forbidden to accumulate wealth and property and not to spend anything in the way of God. This is why some obligations in the form of Zakaat or Khoms are issued in Islam to force people spend some. Beyond these, one can keep his property for himself. However, this is special for normal situations, but in abnormal situation like when Islamic government needs more funds to proceed with its demands or to resist against the enemies, one has to spend more. This is what the mentioned narration talks about that after the emergence of the Imam, one has to assist him financially up to his ability.

2- The importance of spending in the way of God: Property is something that is given to us by God and should be spent in the way that is proscribed by Him and He is the real owner of what he possess. As the verse at hand says, those who do not pay attention to their financial obligations will meet a painful chastisement. One of its philosophy is that these people love their wealth more than God; hence, they decide to ignore the command of God in order to add to their wealth. When the Imam comes, these people will to protect their own property more than to assist their Imam and it is clear that people are away from the mercy of God and to be away from the mercy of God has no other meaning but a divine punishment.

3- Besides the divine aid, people should also assist: Although God will help the Imam to proceed with his mission and God is enough for this goal, people should also assist the Imam with their lives and property. Although God does not need people’s assistance, people should contribute since its benefit returns back to them and one has to endeavor for what he desires to achieve. It is a certain custom of God in this world that everything should be done through a certain cause and effect procedure and this is the reason that people will be forced religiously to help their Imam with the ways they afford.
